EU Continues to Import Russian LNG Despite Sanctions

Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko confirmed that despite EU sanctions, Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) is still being supplied to the European Union. However, the volumes are significantly lower than in previous years.

According to Financial Times, from January to June 2026, the EU purchased nearly 10 million tonnes of LNG from the Yamal project, which is an increase of 18% compared to the same period last year.

Grushko noted that while gas supplies are still flowing, they are incomparably smaller than previous records. In fact, Russia's share of the EU's gas balance was approximately 40% in the past.
