EU Corn Imports Shift Towards US Amid Ukrainian Export Crunch
The European Union's corn imports are shifting due to Ukraine's reduced exports. The Greater Odessa ports' suspension has led to a significant decrease in Ukrainian corn shipments, forcing EU countries to look elsewhere for feed grain.
A drought affecting Europe's crops is driving the need for more imports. According to Politico, the EU plans to import approximately 25 million tons of feed grain from July 2026 to June 2027, up from 19.3 million tons in the previous 12 months.
American farmers are poised to benefit from this change. With a rich harvest and low prices, they can offer competitive pricing for EU countries. In July and August, American suppliers accounted for up to two-fifths of European corn imports, making them an attractive alternative to Ukrainian ones.
