EU Gas Imports from Russia Surge Amid Global Crisis

The European Union (EU) increased its imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia in June, according to data from the analytical center CREA. The EU imported 14% more LNG from Russia than last year, with France purchasing the most Russian LNG.

CREA's analysis found that four times more gas arrived at the port of Montoire de Bretagne in June compared to May. The increased imports have boosted Russia's revenues, which now stand at 60 million euros per day.

The EU had previously approved a regulation to phase out imports of Russian LNG and pipeline gas, but it appears that this goal has not yet been achieved. In fact, the share of Russian natural gas in total EU imports has remained at approximately 13.4% since 2022.
