EU Gas Storage Falters Amid Soaring Prices
The European Union's natural gas storage situation is not currently at risk due to supply shortages, according to European Commission spokesperson Eva Hrncirova. However, EU nations are struggling to fill their gas storage tanks for the upcoming winter. Gas prices have skyrocketed due to geopolitical tensions following the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran, which has discouraged companies from purchasing and storing fuel.
Despite this assurance of no immediate supply risks, the current storage capacity is lower than last year's at the same period. According to data from Gas Infrastructure Europe, gas storage was at 74% capacity at this time last year, whereas it stands at 62% now.
