EU Gas Volumes Surge Amid Strait of Hormuz Disruptions
Increased hedging activity in the European natural gas market pushed trading volumes to record highs during the first half of this year, according to data compiled by Energy Intelligence.
The surge was prompted by volatility caused by near-closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which a significant portion of global LNG supplies pass.
The disruptions led to higher natural gas prices in Europe and increased demand for hedging instruments, driving up trading volumes.
