EU Gasps as Middle East Conflict Looms Over Energy Supplies
The Oil Coordination Group has confirmed that there are no immediate supply concerns in the European Union following renewed hostilities in the Middle East and a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
The group, which includes experts from the European Commission, EU countries, industry, the International Energy Agency (IEA), and NATO, met to discuss oil security of supply in Europe.
The meeting concluded that demand for crude oil and oil products in Europe can continue to be met through commercial stocks and alternative supplies from global markets. However, it was also acknowledged that the duration of the conflict could have a significant impact on the market in coming weeks and months.
The European Commission will continue to assess the situation and support coordinated action as needed, maintaining regular communication with EU countries, the IEA, and market participants.
