The European Commission has cut its EU grain and oilseed production outlook for the 2026/27 marketing season. Soft wheat production is now forecast at 124.4 million tonnes, down 8% from last season.

Grain maize output was slashed to 51.9 million tonnes, nearly 14% below the previous year's level. Analysts attribute the decline to reduced plantings, rising energy and fertilizer costs, and multiple heatwaves that disrupted crop development across major producing regions.

Soft wheat exports were reduced to 29 million tonnes, while ending stocks were revised lower to 12.9 million tonnes, reflecting tighter availability. Maize imports are now projected at 24 million tonnes, significantly higher than the estimated 19.1 million tonnes last month.
