EU Imports Almost 10 Million Tons of Russian LNG in First Half of Year

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko revealed that despite reduced volumes, the European Union continues to buy liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia. In the first six months of this year, EU countries acquired almost 10 million tons of gas from the Yamal LNG project.

This is a significant increase of 18% compared to the same period last year, according to Financial Times data. However, Grushko noted that current supply volumes cannot be compared with previous record figures.

The Yamal LNG project operates based on the South Tambey field in the Arctic region and has been a major supplier of gas to the EU. Although the volumes are significantly below the 40% mark, which was previously supplied by Russia, the EU continues to rely on Russian LNG imports.
