EU Imports of Russian Gas Rise Despite 2027 Phase-Out Goal
European Union imports of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) rose by 14% in June compared to the same month a year earlier, despite its commitment to end dependence on Russian energy supplies by 2027.
The Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air reported that Russian revenues from these sales totaled approximately $60 million per day, with France as the largest buyer.
The French port of Montoir received quantities more than four times higher than its imports in May, while data from Bruegel showed that Russian gas accounted for 13.4% of total European gas imports in the second quarter.
As part of efforts to diversify sources, Germany turned to Azerbaijani gas, which reached the country via pipelines for the first time, according to SOCAR, the state oil company of Azerbaijan.
