EU LNG Storage Facilities at Historic Low Amid Winter Supply Squeeze Fears

The European Union's liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage facilities are alarmingly low, only about 57% full as of this time of year. This is the lowest level in records going back to 2009, according to Bloomberg.

This raises concerns for a potential supply squeeze during winter, particularly with Asia snapping up available LNG cargoes and disrupting global supply chains.

The European Union has eased planned restrictions on Russian LNG imports, allowing EU-registered vessels to transport and store Russian LNG in the bloc's facilities. This move provides an important lifeline to Russia's Yamal LNG facility.

EU buyers have been heavy consumers of Russian LNG in recent months, importing record-high volumes from Russia's Yamal facility in the first half of this year.
