EU Sanctions Package Includes Carve-Out for Greek Shipping Company
The European Union has reached a final agreement on its 21st sanctions package against Russia, but it comes with a significant carve-out for Greece's shipping sector.
The exemption allows Greek company Dynagas to continue transporting Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) to non-EU countries, even after the EU's import ban takes effect in 2027.
The agreement has been criticized by sanctions campaigners who argue that it will allow a key pillar of Russia's war economy to continue operating at full steam.
According to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air, Greek-linked vessels have transported around €23 billion worth of Russian LNG since the full-scale invasion began.
