The European Union's soft wheat exports are trailing far behind last year's pace. According to data from the European Commission, EU soft wheat exports from the start of the 2026/27 season through August 16 reached 1.48 million tons. This is almost half the 2.90 million tons exported during the same period last season.

Barley exports have fallen even more sharply. The EU has exported around 600 thousand tons since the start of the season, compared with 2.12 million tons a year earlier, meaning shipments have dropped by more than threefold.

In contrast, EU corn imports are increasing. As of August 16, the bloc had imported 2.12 million tons of corn, compared with 1.48 million tons in the same period of 2025/26, an increase of around 43%.
