European Feed Prices Soar to Record Levels Amid Futures Volatility
Feed prices in Europe have reached record levels due to sharp rises in futures and premiums for physical deliveries. According to S&P Global Energy, prices for soybean meal and corn have increased significantly, with soybean meal reaching €400/t or $464.88/t FOB - Netherlands, and corn at €248/t EXW Spain.
The price of soybean meal has risen by €18/t in the period August 27 - September 2, while corn prices have increased by €4/t to €248/t EXW Spain. Market volatility and uncertainty about the future direction of futures are supporting these high prices, making forecasting difficult for traders.
Despite the sharp increase in futures prices and premiums, demand for feed remains low. Traders expect concerns about the implementation of the EU Logging Regulation (EUDR) to rise again at the end of the year, which could impact soybean procurement costs by over €1 billion in 2027.
