European Gas Prices Soar Amid Ongoing Middle East Conflict
The ongoing Middle East war has triggered Europe's largest gas price jump since March, driven by disruptions to global energy supplies. European natural gas prices are poised for a 30% surge in July, with benchmark futures easing ahead of the weekend but still on track for significant gains.
Dutch front-month futures for September delivery fell 0.7% to €57.92 per megawatt-hour on Friday morning in Amsterdam, but the monthly price increase makes it more costly for Europe to replenish its fuel stockpiles ahead of winter.
Europe's gas storage facilities are only 56% full, compared to a five-year seasonal average of 73%, raising concerns about energy security heading into colder months. The market is bracing for prolonged disruptions to global liquefied natural gas supplies due to the conflict in the Middle East.
