European Gas Prices Spike Amid Middle East Supply Disruptions
Natural gas prices in Europe have surged to their highest level since the end of 2022, amid growing concerns over energy supplies. The benchmark European natural gas futures contract, TTF, for delivery the following month rose more than 5% at the start of trading on the Amsterdam exchange to €83.75 ($97.13) per megawatt-hour.
The price increase is attributed to disruptions in liquefied natural gas supplies from the Middle East, particularly due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and subsequent restrictions on energy shipments.
According to reports, gas prices in Europe have nearly tripled since the beginning of the year, with the ongoing crisis related to Iran also contributing to the price hike.
