European Gas Prices Surge Amid Middle East Supply Chain Disruptions
Benchmark European natural gas prices surged past 84 euros per megawatt-hour on Monday, driven by Middle Eastern supply chain disruptions and pipeline closures.
The price increase reflects immediate market reactions to heightened geopolitical instability in the region. Saudi Arabian state oil company Aramco executed a precautionary shutdown of its East-West pipeline following reported drone attacks launched from Iraq, temporarily constraining a critical alternative crude routing channel.
As a result, trading data from Monday morning established a decisive upward trajectory for primary energy contracts. The Dutch TTF active contract, which serves as the fundamental reference point for European wholesale gas pricing, advanced 5.64 percent to settle at 84.005 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh).
The broader crude oil market mirrored this bullish sentiment, with the generic contract for Brent crude advancing 2.91 percent to reach $107.65 per barrel.
