European Natural Gas Prices Soar Amid Winter Storage Shortfall
Natural gas prices in Europe climbed on Tuesday morning in Amsterdam as the region faces a winter storage shortfall. The Dutch Title Transfer Facility (TTF) front-month contract rose by 2% to reach its highest level since the 2022-2023 energy crisis, trading at $86.90 or €74.820 per megawatt-hour.
The increase comes as Europe's gas storage sites are less than 70% full, compared with 82% at the same point in 2025 and a five-year average above 80%. This is one of the lowest storage levels in two decades, exacerbating concerns about supply ahead of winter.
Analysts note that the market is adapting to a more extended disruption to LNG supply from Qatar due to the war in the Middle East. Go Katayama, principal insight analyst for LNG at Kpler, stated that there is potential for a global contest over fuel if winter proves colder than usual.
