European Shares Rise on Easing Fed Hike Bets and Gold Price Gains
European shares ticked higher on Monday as easing bets of a Federal Reserve rate hike supported sentiment. The pan-European STOXX 600 index rose 0.1% to 658.51 points, led by basic resources stocks and technology stocks.
Gold prices advanced 0.4%, while the U.S. dollar weakened. This shift in market expectations was attributed to softer-than-expected U.S. economic data.
Basic resources stocks, such as Antofagasta, Hochschild Mining, and Fresnillo, climbed between 1.9% and 2.3%. Technology stocks also gained, rising 1%.
