European Stocks Plummet on Rising Oil Prices and Bond Yields Amid Middle East Tensions
European stock markets retreated on Tuesday, weighed down by rising oil prices and bond yields amid escalating Middle East tensions.
The pan-European STOXX 600 index fell 0.5% to 652.94 points as Brent crude climbed to around $90 a barrel, with energy shares up 0.3%.
Natural gas prices rose 0.8% to $2.7 amid concerns over disrupted supplies and fuel costs.
Technology stocks led the decline, falling 1.8%, while basic resources were down 1% due to lower gold prices.
The euro zone's long-dated bond yields hit multi-year highs as investors feared inflation would rise with higher energy prices and defence-related borrowing.
