European Stocks Slip Amid Oil Surge, Middle East Tensions
European stocks slipped on Monday as investors took a cautious approach ahead of major central bank policy decisions. The pan-European STOXX 600 index held steady, while Germany's DAX and France's CAC 40 declined slightly. London's FTSE 100 gained 0.5%.
The renewed climb in crude oil prices added to market concerns, with Brent crude futures rising another 3% to trade near $112 a barrel. The price increase was driven by fresh military strikes on Saudi Arabian infrastructure and the prospect of further wartime supply disruptions.
Technology listings were also under pressure after warnings from industry leaders. BE Semiconductor dropped 5.2%, ASML lost 4.4%, and STMicroelectronics declined 3.4%.
