Europe's Gas Storage Hits Lowest Level Since 2011 Amid Supply Security Concerns
Europe's natural gas storage levels have reached their lowest point for early August since 2011, sparking concerns about supply security and potential price hikes ahead of the winter heating season.
The European Union's gas storage facilities were only 57% full as of August 5th, according to Gas Infrastructure Europe data. This is significantly lower than the nearly 70% recorded at the same time last year.
Slower-than-usual refill rates have been attributed to tighter global LNG supply and disruptions caused by the Middle East crisis, which has reduced cargo availability for Europe and increased competition from Asian buyers.
Analysts warn that lower inventories could make the market more vulnerable to price volatility during the winter months, particularly if colder-than-normal weather increases heating demand.
