Europe's Gas Storage Levels Lag Behind as Prices Rise
Natural gas storage facilities across Europe are currently filled to 60.8%, a level below historical averages and concerning for the upcoming winter season, according to Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE).
The warm weather in Southern and Central Europe is making it difficult to replenish storage facilities as higher temperatures increase demand for gas-fired power plants.
This increased demand is causing part of the gas intended for storage to be diverted to electricity generation, further exacerbating concerns over supply security.
Natural gas futures prices in Europe are rising, with prices at the Dutch TTF hub reaching €62.26 per megawatt-hour, driven by disruptions to liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from the Gulf and reduced shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
