Europe's Natural Gas Prices Surge Amid Low Storage Levels
Natural gas prices in Europe have surged by up to 5% due to low storage levels and supply disruptions, according to Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE). The current storage facilities are only 61.6% full, compared to 74% during the same period last year.
The price of natural gas at the Netherlands' TTF hub has reached €68.36 per megawatt-hour, sparking concerns among analysts that prices could rise sharply between November and March if storage levels remain low.
The European Union aims to increase gas storage levels to 80% by December 1, but ongoing disruptions to supplies are expected to make it difficult to achieve this target.
Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), has warned that Europe could face serious risks this winter due to supply disruptions in the Middle East and the suspension of liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from Russia.
