Excelerate LNG Terminal Resumes Operations After Two-Week Outage
The Excelerate LNG terminal in Cox's Bazar has resumed partial operations after being out of service for two weeks due to a technical issue. The terminal, operated by Excelerate Energy, supplies gas to the national grid and had been shut down since July 21st. According to Petrobangla Deputy General Manager (Production and Marketing) Engineer Md Shahidul Haque, repair work on the damaged terminal has been completed and it is currently operating in observation mode.
The resumption of operations at the Excelerate LNG terminal has led to an improvement in gas supply to the national grid. The terminal is currently supplying around 500 million cubic feet of gas, while the repaired terminal is contributing approximately 230 million cubic feet. Petrobangla officials said that if everything remains normal, the terminal will soon return to full operational capacity.
Chattogram has been experiencing a severe gas shortage for several days due to the technical fault at the Moheshkhali LNG terminal. However, with the resumption of operations at the Excelerate LNG terminal, gas supply has improved in Chattogram, easing industrial and household shortages. Petrobangla officials said that an additional LNG cargo is waiting offshore and efforts are underway to berth it at the terminal.
