Excelerate Pioneers Resilient Energy Future for Bangladesh

Bangladesh's energy landscape has undergone significant changes in recent years, particularly with the introduction of floating LNG infrastructure. This innovation enabled access to global natural gas supplies and played a crucial role in supporting the country's energy security.

Excelerate, the company that pioneered floating regasification technology, delivered Bangladesh's first LNG import terminal in 2018. The two floating assets in the Bay of Bengal have since supplied approximately 1.9 trillion cubic feet of natural gas to the country, accounting for nearly 19% of its total natural gas supply since 2018.

The FSRUs (Floating Storage and Regasification Units) operated by Excelerate supply roughly 1.1 billion cubic feet per day, about 34% of Bangladesh's daily gas supply, with greater than 99% reliability since 2023. This is a testament to the importance of redundancy in energy security.

Looking ahead, Bangladesh's future energy security will require a multi-faceted approach, including domestic gas development, reliable LNG import infrastructure, renewables, regional power trade, efficiency, system redundancy, and nuclear power.
