Explora Journeys Unveils First LNG-Powered Luxury Cruise Ship EXPLORA III
Explora Journeys' luxury cruise line has taken a major step forward with the naming of its first LNG-powered ship, EXPLORA III. The ceremony took place in Barcelona on August 1, marking the halfway point in the company's plan to build a fleet of six ships dedicated to ultra-luxury ocean travel.
The EXPLORA III is longer than its predecessors by 63 feet (19.2 meters), offering guests 64 square feet (19.5 square meters) of public space per guest, among the highest in the cruise industry. The ship features a redesigned lobby with a sculptural marble staircase and custom Murano glass chandeliers.
New onboard concepts include The Cellar by Explora Journeys, featuring nearly 350 wine labels, and Shore Club on 11, serving Mediterranean cuisine. The wellness offering has been consolidated into the Ocean Wellness area, combining spa, fitness, and movement experiences with new facilities such as the Sava Sound Pod.
The EXPLORA III is scheduled to depart Barcelona on August 3 for its seven-night maiden voyage to Lisbon, followed by sailings across Northern Europe, Iceland, Greenland, and North America. The ship's LNG-powered design allows it to operate on liquefied natural gas while also being capable of using renewable alternatives such as bio-LNG and synthetic LNG.
