ExxonMobil Assumes Control of Papua LNG Project

ExxonMobil Holdings (NYSE:XOM) has taken control of the Papua LNG project from TotalEnergies, expanding its role in Papua New Guinea's gas sector. The transfer of operatorship increases ExxonMobil's exposure to liquefied natural gas development in the country.

This move adds to ExxonMobil's existing presence in Papua New Guinea, where it already runs large-scale LNG infrastructure. With this added responsibility, ExxonMobil may be able to achieve greater cost efficiencies and improve production planning for its wider LNG portfolio.

The company's focus on long-life hydrocarbon projects and integrated LNG capacity has positioned it to benefit from sustained oil and gas prices. Industry-wide underinvestment in new hydrocarbon production is tightening supply, making high-return projects like Papua LNG more attractive.
