ExxonMobil Picks SMDC Joint Venture for Cabo Delgado LNG Project
The Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique has taken another step forward as ExxonMobil selects SMDC joint venture for midstream engineering construction contract. The US oil and gas company is leading the construction and operation of future natural gas liquefaction and related facilities for the Area 4 deep water block off the Cabo Delgado coast.
The project, operated by Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV), a joint venture owned by ExxonMobil, ENI, and CNPC of China, is expected to deliver approximately $150 billion in revenues to the Mozambican State over its 30-year operating life. The SMDC joint venture consists of Saipem S.p.A, McDermott Energy Solutions (UK) Ltd., Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd., and China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Corporation.
Johanna Boothey, ExxonMobil manager in Mozambique, stated that the selection of their onshore EPC contractor is an important milestone advancing the Rovuma LNG project. They will continue to work with the Government of Mozambique and partners toward a Final Investment Decision (FID) in 2026.
