ExxonMobil Selects SMDC Joint Venture as EPC Contractor for Rovuma LNG Project
The Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique has taken a significant step forward with the selection of an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor. ExxonMobil Moçambique, Limitada, on behalf of the Area 4 partners, has awarded a letter of intent to the SMDC joint venture for limited EPC services supporting Phase 1 of the midstream development.
The SMDC joint venture comprises Saipem S.p.A, McDermott Energy Solutions (UK) Ltd., Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd., and China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Corporation. They bring extensive global experience in the engineering, procurement, and construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities.
The Rovuma LNG Project onshore development is expected to include 12 modular liquefaction modules with a total production capacity of 18.6 million tonnes of LNG per year. The project represents one of the largest private investments in Mozambique's history, and its completion is anticipated in 2031.
