FAO Food Price Index Rises 1.9% Amid Global Supply Chain Disruptions
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) released its latest food price index, which shows a 1.9% increase in August compared to July, reaching 133.3 points.
The main factors behind this rise include unfavorable weather conditions, logistical delays in the Black Sea region, and tensions in the Middle East.
Sugar prices jumped by 11.9% due to droughts in Europe and lower sugar production in Brazil.
Cereal prices also rose, with wheat increasing by 2.6%, corn by 2.5%, and rice by 0.5%. Global cereal production is expected to reach 2.98 billion tonnes this year, but global cereal consumption will likely exceed this amount.
