FAO Reports Global Food Prices Rise Amid Weather and Geopolitical Pressures

Global food prices rose in July due to weather extremes and geopolitical tensions. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported that its Food Price Index averaged 131.1 points in July, a 0.6% increase from June.

The cereal price index rebounded by 3.4%, reversing its previous decline, while global wheat prices rose 5.8%. The increases were attributed to continued disruptions to Black Sea export flows and the impact of heatwaves on crop yields in several major producing countries.

Vegetable oil prices also increased, reaching their highest level since June 2022, as palm oil prices strengthened on firm demand from Indonesia's biodiesel sector and higher crude oil prices.
