Farmers Unite Against Fertilizer Industry Profiteers
Agricultural farmers from across the US have gathered in Iowa to express their frustration and anger towards the fertilizer industry, which they claim is taking advantage of them through high prices.
The 'Fed Up: Fertilizer Cartel Profits off Farmers' Backs' hearing brought together over 170 farmers from 13 states, who shared their personal experiences with the rising costs of fertilizers. They accused major fertilizer companies such as Mosaic, Nutrien, CF Industries, and Koch of profiteering at their expense.
According to the Iowa Corn Growers Association, American farmers have seen the price of fertilizer double or even triple since 2020, generating over $20 billion in profits for fertilizer shareholders within the past five years. The USDA Deputy Secretary Stephen A. Vaden addressed the attendees, highlighting the importance of continuing to pressure current investigations and the USDA's commitment to ensuring justice for U.S. farmers.
