Farmers Watch as Year-Round E15 Sales Gain Momentum in Farm Bill
Iowa corn farmers are closely watching the debate over the new Farm Bill as it could create a larger market for year-round E-15 fuel sales. The Senate's latest language includes year-round nationwide sales of E-15, a gas blend with 15% ethanol made from corn.
The provision passed the House earlier this year and has been endorsed by Iowa U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley. He considers it good for farmers as it gives them needed certainty.
For Marion County farmer Steve Kuiper, the proposal comes at a critical time. 'We've had about four years of decline,' he said. 'Had a couple good years in there but then even more decline before that.'
Kuiper also sees domestic fuel production as helpful amid uncertainty in oil-producing regions.
