Finland Diesel Prices Return to Pre-War Levels Amid Rising Oil Costs
The average price of diesel fuel in Finland has returned to levels seen at the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine in 2022, according to YLE News.
The current price of a liter of diesel is €2.43, while A95 gasoline costs €2.28. This development comes as the price of a barrel of Brent crude has risen above $100 again, amid prolonged hostilities in the Middle East.
Hanna Kalenoja, chief transport expert at the Central Chamber of Commerce of Finland, attributes this increase to low inventory levels and reduced supply from Russia, which is now a net importer of diesel due to Ukraine's strikes on oil extraction facilities.
Kalenoja notes that although there is no fuel shortage, low inventory levels are affecting prices. She expects prices to remain high without normal supplies of petroleum products from the Persian Gulf reaching the market.
