Florida Gas Prices Soar Above $4 Per Gallon Amid Oil Price Surge
Florida's average gas price has surpassed $4 per gallon for the first time since June 1, according to AAA. The state average is now at $4.14 per gallon, up 23 cents from last week and 19 cents more than a month ago.
The surge in oil prices is driving up the cost of gasoline. Crude oil prices have increased by nearly 20% over the past two weeks, climbing from $83 per barrel to above $100 per barrel. This accounts for over half of the price consumers pay for gas.
Mark Jenkins, a spokesman for AAA, attributes the increase in oil prices to heightened tensions in the Middle East.
