Flour Prices in Hyderabad Soar Amid Calls for Government Intervention

Hyderabad consumers are facing pressure due to rising flour prices, according to Ahmed Idrees Chohan, acting president of the Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders & Small Industry. He expressed concern that the price of flour has reached around Rs 155 to 160 per kg.

The government should tighten monitoring of wheat availability, supply chain, and price trends in the market, Chohan said. He also suggested taking action against hoarding and bringing illegally stopped wheat stocks to the market without creating a temporary shortage or supply pressure.

Representatives of the Flour Mills Association agreed with Chohan's view, saying that it is necessary to bring wheat stocks to the market in phases and maintain price stability.

Chohan emphasized that the government should not only aim to export stored wheat but also stabilize flour prices by delivering them to the market in an organized manner. He demanded daily review of wheat supply and demand through immediate communication between the Food Department, District Administration, flour mills, and trader representatives.
