Food Prices Edge Higher Amid Weather and Energy Pressures

Global food prices edged higher in July due to extreme weather and rising energy costs. The FAO Food Price Index, which tracks monthly changes in international food commodity prices, rose 0.6 percent from June to 131.1 points.

The FAO Cereal Price Index climbed 3.4 percent, driven by a 5.8 percent surge in global wheat prices amid concerns over continued disruptions to Black Sea grain exports and heatwaves affecting harvest prospects.

Vegetable oil prices also increased, reaching their highest level since June 2022, with palm oil prices strengthening due to robust demand from Indonesia's biodiesel industry and higher crude oil prices.
