Food Prices Edge Up Amid Weather, Energy Concerns

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has reported a slight increase in global food prices in July, driven by extreme weather conditions, geopolitical tensions, and higher energy costs.

The FAO Food Price Index rose to 131.1 points in July, representing a 0.6% increase from June and a 1% rise compared to the same period last year.

The sharpest gains were recorded in the cereals market, with the FAO Cereal Price Index increasing by 3.4% from June and standing 6.9% above its level a year earlier.

Global wheat prices surged by 5.8% amid concerns over continued disruptions to exports from the Black Sea region and fears that prolonged heatwaves could affect harvests in some of the world's leading producers.
