Food Prices Reach Three-Year High Amid Cereal, Sugar, and Vegetable Oil Increases

Global food prices have reached their highest level in over three years, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The FAO's Food Price Index averaged 131.1 points in July, marking a 0.6% increase from June and a 1% rise compared to the same month last year.

The main contributors to this surge were increases in cereal, sugar, and vegetable oil prices, which rose by 3.4%, 5.6%, and 2% respectively. Global wheat prices increased by 5.8% during the month and were 9.9% higher than a year earlier.

However, meat and dairy prices declined in July, with the FAO's meat price index falling 2.8% from June and remaining 0.8% above its level a year earlier.
