Ford's Pipeline Proposal Hits Roadblock in Alberta
Ontario Premier Doug Ford has proposed that Alberta restrict oil exports to the United States in response to American tariffs, but this move is being met with skepticism by many Albertans.
The problem with Ford's proposal is that it would require Alberta to jeopardize its largest industry while Ontario continues to rely on American energy and pipelines to supply its own economy.
According to the Ontario government's own energy plan, approximately 86% of the crude processed by Ontario refineries comes from Western Canada, but much of this oil has to travel through the United States via pipelines such as Line 5.
