Formentera Partners Expands Australian Operations with New Drilling Rig
Formentera Partners has expanded its operations in Australia's Beetaloo Basin by securing an additional drilling rig from Helmerich & Payne. The new HP-480 FlexRig is a super-spec rig that can reach extended-reach laterals of over 20,000 feet with 5.5-inch casing. This addition brings the total number of H&P rigs operating in Australia to three, demonstrating confidence in the region's growth and development.
The contract highlights include securing rig capacity through the end of the decade, with an option to extend to 2032. The FlexRig's skiddable substructure allows it to move between drilling locations on a pad, reducing downtime between wells. H&P's integrated automation technology standardizes execution across crews, improving wellbore quality and rate of penetration.
Bryan Sheffield, Managing Partner of Formentera, stated, 'Bringing another H&P rig to Australia shows the confidence we have in the rapid growth and development of the Beetaloo Basin.' He emphasized that this is a strategic investment as the resource becomes clearer and the path to large-scale natural gas development for domestic use and future LNG export is becoming more apparent.
