Freeland Bean and Grain Wins Top Exporter Award; Midland Offers Free Senior Counseling

Freeland Bean and Grain has been named as this year's Michigan Agriculture Exporter of the Year by the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development. The award was presented at a ceremony held on Tuesday, August 12, at the company's facility in Freeland. The company exports high-quality products grown in-state, with at least 50% of their product being grown in Michigan.

The Michigan Agriculture Exporter of the Year Award is given annually to a company that produces and exports high quality, Michigan-grown products. To be eligible, the company must have at least 50% of its product grown in-state and exports must contribute significantly to the business. Freeland Bean and Grain has been exporting their products to countries such as Mexico, Costa Rica, and Guatemala since 2005.

The Greater Midland Community Center is also offering free counseling services for senior citizens through a partnership with Family & Children’s Services of Mid-Michigan. The services are available every Wednesday and do not require a referral to access. Tad Hupfer specializes in counseling services for the elderly and has experience working with senior living facilities and independent living communities.
