Freeland Bean and Grain Wins Top Honor for Agricultural Exports
Freeland Bean and Grain Inc. has been named Michigan's 2026 Agriculture Exporter of the Year by the state's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD).
The honor recognizes Freeland Bean and Grain's commitment to opening new markets for Michigan producers, which has created economic opportunities for farmers and strengthened rural communities.
Founded in 1983, Freeland Bean and Grain is a family-run business that buys and sells corn, soybeans, soft red wheat, and edible black beans. The company exports 100% of its edible black beans to countries including Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, and Peru.
Freeland's Marketing Manager Roger Hupfer attributed their export growth to a partnership with Jack's Bean International, which provides logistical support and helps navigate regulatory requirements.
