Freeport-McMoRan Copper Business Surges as Electrification Demand Rises
Freeport-McMoRan's copper business is gaining traction as a key supplier for electrification and AI data centers, alongside tight global copper supply. This renewed focus on copper's role in electrification has investors reevaluating the company's investment narrative and risk balance.
The recent breakout to all-time highs and increased interest in copper-linked stocks reinforce the strong demand for copper tied to electrification and AI infrastructure. However, this also sharpens the key risk of any reversal in copper pricing or U.S. policy support potentially testing current expectations.
Freeport-McMoRan's Q2 2026 results show US$7,029 million in quarterly sales and US$984 million in net income, with higher earnings than a year ago despite slightly lower revenue. This demonstrates how the business is translating tight copper markets and U.S. pricing premiums into profit.
The company projects $37.4 billion revenue and $6.4 billion earnings by 2029, requiring 12.3% yearly revenue growth and about a $3.7 billion earnings increase from $2.7 billion today.
