Freeport-McMoRan Crushes Q2 Earnings Estimates with Copper-Fueled Growth
Freeport-McMoRan has reported stronger-than-expected second-quarter earnings, exceeding analysts' estimates. The mining company's adjusted earnings per share (EPS) came in at $0.74, beating expectations of $0.62. Revenue also exceeded forecasts, reaching $7.03 billion.
The results were driven by high copper and gold prices, with the company producing 786 million pounds of copper. Additionally, Freeport-McMoRan generated $962 million in free cash flow during the quarter. This positive performance led RBC Capital to raise its price target on FCX shares from $70 to $73.
However, despite the strong earnings report, the stock price dipped following the announcement. This may be due to investors having previously anticipated the results, leading to a price correction post-earnings.
