French Energy Strike Reduces Dunkirk LNG Terminal Capacity
A strike by French energy sector workers has reduced delivery capacity at the Dunkirk LNG terminal to 4 gigawatt-hours (GWh) per day, down from a minimum of 9.4 GWh per day.
The strike was called in protest against a proposed change to employee electricity discounts, which unions view as a core part of their compensation. The cost of these discounted rates is estimated at over €700 million ($807.7 million) in lost revenue for EDF in 2024.
Other French LNG terminals are operating normally, but the reduction in capacity at Dunkirk may affect gas supplies outside France. European gas storage levels are critically low, and the strike adds pressure on gas prices already trading at their highest levels since late 2022.
