Fuel Prices Soar Amid Ongoing Middle Eastern Conflict
The US is grappling with record-high fuel prices, which have surpassed $8.29 per gallon in California's Silicon Valley and $7.81 on average across the state.
This has led to a surge in logistics costs, prompting Amazon to impose a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on select third-party sellers using its fulfillment services, while UPS packages have seen their fuel surcharge increase to 24.25% of the base freight rate.
The root cause of these high prices remains the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, with recent exchanges of fire between the US and Iran driving global oil prices higher.
Dan Pickering, Chief Investment Officer at Pickering Energy Partners, notes that the world is 'waking up' to the reality of prolonged high fuel prices and inflation worries, which he believes will last for a while.
