Fuel Prices Soar in Kabul Amid Salang Route Closure
The prices of fuel and sugar have increased in Kabul, while flour and gold prices have decreased over the past week. According to market sources, the price of one liter of petrol has risen from 80afs to 87afs, and diesel has gone up from 75afs to 79afs due to higher global prices and the closure of the Salang route.
Additionally, the price of liquefied gas has increased from 67afs to 69afs per kilogram. The Salang highway was closed to tanker trucks on July 10 for reconstruction work, which may have contributed to the fuel price hike.
On the other hand, the prices of flour and gold have declined. A 49kg bag of Kazakh flour now costs 1,550afs, down from 1,600afs, while a kilogram of Arabian gold has fallen in value from 7,700afs to 7,480afs.
Market analysts attribute the decline in flour prices to lower demand and increased imports. The closure of the Salang route has also had an impact on fuel prices, but it is unclear whether this will have a lasting effect.
