Futures Fall as Oil Prices Surge Amid Middle East Tensions
US stock futures fell on Wednesday morning as oil prices surged after renewed tensions in the Middle East. Brent crude rose 7.24% to $90.15 per barrel, while WTI crude was up 6.70% to $84.59 per barrel.
President Donald Trump told a Fox News reporter that the US will be striking Iran 'hard' in reaction to the surprise attacks. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched multiple ballistic missiles at US forces in the region, but all were successfully intercepted.
In pre-market trading, SK Hynix stock was down about 1% after the South Korean memory company's quarterly results missed expectations. In contrast, Seagate stock rose more than 5% after the data storage company issued a strong outlook for the first fiscal quarter.
