GAIL Profit Surges Amidst West Asia Crisis
GAIL (India) Limited reported a significant surge in its standalone net profit for the first quarter of FY2026-27, more than doubling to Rs 4,292 crore. This is a substantial increase from Rs 1,886 crore recorded in the same period last year and Rs 1,262 crore in the preceding quarter.
The company's natural gas marketing segment was the primary contributor to this growth, with profits swelling despite a decline in volumes. The segment reported a profit before interest and tax of Rs 3,481 crore, up from Rs 1,072 crore last year and a swing from a loss of Rs 151 crore in the previous quarter.
The West Asia crisis led to disruptions in LNG supplies, with Petronet LNG Limited declaring force majeure on March 3. GAIL procured LNG and natural gas from alternative sources, managing supply to priority sectors as per the government's Natural Gas (Supply Regulation) Order dated March 9.
